SAITO STUDENT IS MALAYSIAN MEMBER OF YOUTH PARLIAMENT

As politicians get ready for elections in six states the next two weeks, Lin Jin, 22-year old student of Saito Law Enforcement & Public Sector Management (FLAME) is equally excited about sitting in Parliament next month to debate on national issues.

Lin Jin who is pursuing her degree in Law Enforcement (Investigation) had just been nominated as a member of Youth Parliament of Malaysia representing Kuala Lumpur. Together with another 89 representatives from all over the country, the young and enthusiastic MPs are ready to rumble in the Dewan Rakyat.

Speaking to this writer recently, the elder of two siblings said she wants to highlight issues such as the ones affecting the vulnerable groups like women and children.

“I believe these groups are often overlooked. Their rights should be voiced out and we hope the authorities would take our debate seriously,” she said.

Looking back, Lin Jin said she saw a window of opportunity in the social media. “I was elated when I found out that I was chosen, knowing that there were many other applicants.”

“I did an extensive research on the programme before sending in my application. I am so happy to be given this great opportunity.

Staying in the heart of Kuala Lumpur in Taman Seputeh, Lin Jin who received the chancellor’s award for her excellent result in Diploma in Law Enforcement Administration said she was told she would be among a potpourri of youths with different background.

“The experience of getting involved in debates, especially in the Parliament where great minds sit would be an honour for all the youth.

“The Youth Parliament gives us an insight into the working of our executives,” said Lin Jin who is full of praises for Saito UC lecturers.

The daughter of a pensioner, Lin Jin said her journey in Saito UC was a stark contrast to when she was with another IPTS. “I made the right choice,” she said firmly.

“Our lecturers are a friendly lot, they would render assistance without hesitation. Just go for it and never disappoint your family. Do your best,” said Lin Jin who aspires to be a SPRM officer to fight corruption.

Apart from the coveted chancellor’s award, the student of semester five, Year Two was also the Best Student for the Diploma.

The Youth Parliament is patterned after the Dewan Rakyat and members are required to follow the same rules and procedures. It was initiated in 2015 with several committees formed to mirror the relevant ministries.
