Sergeant Major Simon Santanasamy does what he knows best in Sepang police District. He has more than 10 police personnel under his wings. Except that he does not bark at them, they do.

You see, the “personnel” under his care are Labradors and Alsatians, he is in charge of the K9 unit of the district police, which he described as his best friends, after all dogs are men’s best buddies.

Simon, 42, is no ordinary police officer. A member of the Graduating Class of September 2021 Saito Security Academy, he just received his Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement (Investigations) (First CHons).

“I started my journey in Saito in 2016, taking up Diploma and after graduation continued my Bachelor Degree since it is related to my job,” he said.

Simon who is currently pursuing Master of Law Enforcement at Saito Security Academy said he intends to perform in whatever undertaking and is very thankful that his superiors understand this.

“It has never been tedious because I love what I do. I follow closely my schedule and my studies have never got into the way of my work pattern,” he said.

During the day, Simon would be in the station early morning and finishes work around 5 or 6pm. Unless he has night operations, the man would be in front of his laptop from 10pm to 1am, completing his assignments or reading.

“I follow this schedule religiously. Sometimes however, I have night duties but that does not disrupt my study pattern,” he said, adding that his day to day activities went on as usual.

Simon who received the Best Student Award at the Saito Graduation ceremony on March 19, 2022 said he definitely not Superman and instead was full of praises for his dedicated lecturers.

“They are the heroes, they kept in touch with us and I just followed the instructions from them,” he said adding that his wife was also very supportive of him.

Pre-2020 was the best. Simon said he missed attending physical classes but understood that the pandemic had brought in the new normal but he remembered fondly how they would gather at the nearby Mamak shop before classes.

“It was nice to have F2F classes but it looks like a distant dream for now,” said Simon.

With his newly acquired qualification, he intends to apply for the rank of Inspector soon. “But at the end of the day, it is the satisfaction of getting where you want to be. Saito Security Academy is the best place to pursue your dreams.”
