Saito UC Open Day coincides with firefighters showcase

It was an Open Day with a twist. The sight of firefighters all around the Kampus Saito in Cheras has attracted people to throng the grounds as they got up close to the various equipment and assets belonging to the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department.

It was fun all around as visitors, students and staff of Saito University College were treated to a rare and exciting mammoth show of firefighters, all donned in their uniform at our Cheras campus ground on July 4.

Rare moments indeed as this was the first time the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department joined forces with a private institution of higher learning to put up a spectacular Firefighter Show.

There was even a tense moment as the brave firefighters put up a motorcar fire and “rescued” a victim trapped in it.

Saito UC vice chancellor Prof Dr Vinitha Guptan applauded the inclusion of firefighters during the Open Day, a testimony that Saito UC has fostered well with the various uniformed bodies and government agencies.

“I hope the firefighters’ action will inspire our students in reaching greater heights,” she said.

Students and visitors alike had a fun day as they watched a group of Abang Bomba Sado (masculine and well built gentlemen) flexed their muscles much to the delight of the visitors. Some of the boys sportingly joined them as they too tried to show off their muscles while the girls took the opportunity to wefie with these Abang Sado.

There were also exhibitions of vehicles used in firefighting including their high powered motorcycles and models of helicopters. The friendly firefighters also exhibited their skills in rescue missions to visitors.

KL Fire and Rescue department deputy director Tuan Rozihan Anwar, was thankful that the firefighters are appreciated in such a mammoth event, the first of its kind organised by a higher education institution in Malaysia.

The event saw eight BOMBA special units such as HAZMAT, HRT, RTA, FIO in action, training of extinguishing a fire, talk on fire safety, the presence of official mascot EDIE, and many others.
