When a group of Diploma in Human Resource students were told to come up with a Khidmat Masyarakat assignment, they agreed in unison that it had to be a White Flag project.

After reading about the initiative set up by the public, they decided to appeal to the public, families and friends to donate generously and they in turn will buy essential items to be distributed to the needy.

Its president, Rabiatul Umairah Azmir said they came up with a poster and put it up on social media, including Saito University College’s FB page, and within a few days, collected over RM1,000.

“Our members are all over the country since we are learning online. Each of us identified those who needed help within their community and bought the essential items to be distributed equally,” she said.

Rabiatul said they decided to spend RM32 each for each food basket. Admitting it was not much for some, the food basket was a lifeline for many families.

Among the items found in the basket are rice, sardine in the can, sugar, biscuits, instant noodle and eggs while those with little children were also given diapers.

“We understood their predicament. Some of them have suffered loss or reduction of income, hence we offer them a reprieve,” said Rabiatul.

Although the campaign ends on Aug 10, the group has vowed to continue helping the poor and needy.

“It gives us satisfaction. Why not continue the campaign and we hope many will come forward and donate some cash to us,” she said.

Those who wish to help can send their donations to Thazveni Devi A/P Muthukumaran, CIMB account number 7628362403.

Please contribute generously as the students are genuinely concerned with the current situation.
